Black Tile Pools: The Next Thing?

With modern styles on the rise, are black tile pools the next thing? These darker swimming pools are on the rise as they bring a new, modern element into backyard design. To decide if it’s right for you, it’s important to weight out the pros and cons. If a modern style is a priority for you, then this type of pool can definitely add to your aesthetic!

Are Black Tile Pools Dangerous?

They can be. Black tile pools affect depth perception, making them seem deeper than they actually are. This can be dangerous for a person attempting to dive in or jump into the pool. They also tend to get warmer faster, since black absorbs sunlight. Dark tile pools retain heat, so it’s important to make sure that they aren’t too warm for swimming!

Do Black Pools Get Warmer?

Yes! On average, black tile pools are 5-10 degrees warmer than light colored pools. This is because darker pigments retain more heat, causing the pool to warm quicker and stay warm longer.

Dark Blue Tile Pools

If a black tile pool feels like too much for your personal style, then perhaps a dark blue tile pool is a better option! This can give the space a modern and minimalistic feel, but tends to be a safer option.

Pros & Cons of Black Tile in Pools

On the fence about whether or not you should go with dark tile in your new swimming pool? Here are some of the pros and cons to take into consideration:

The Pros

  • They can add a modern aesthetic.
  • Because of the dark colors, they retain more heat and stay warm.
  • They create a unique look.

The Cons

  • They can be dangerous, as they make the pool seem deeper than it actually is.
  • They can get too warm, requiring a pool chiller in some climates.
  • Dark pools tend to fade with time, making them prone to a little more maintenance in the long run.

I love the look of the black tile pool! However, the mom in me instantly became nervous when reading the cons list. I have noticed the black tile pools are becoming more popular, interested to see how this trend grows. I really like the one with the white grout lines.

I love this look! I know it says that black tile pools are warmer but for some reason the black just makes the pool “look” colder, haha! I might have to look into doing this!
